NAS Jacksonville to NAS Key West
On the Deck at Key West International
We took the T-34 from NAS Jax to Key West international, stopping
for lunch in Key West after a couple of touch and goes out of the
overhead pattern at Naval Air Station Key West.
Southbound to Key West, you can see the Florida

On the deck at Albert Whitted Airport, Tampa, Florida.
This airport has a neat approach over Tampa Bay to the runway
which sort of "t's" into the Bay. Very similar to landing on
an aircraft carrier, similar to other over water approaches such
as are found at Bay Bridge airport in Maryland, St. Simon's island
in Georgia, and Cedar Key on the Florida panhandle.
Not technically a T-34 item, here is one of the neatest trips you can take with an aircraft: We flew commercial into Vegas and rented an Arrow from Monarch Air flying club. We flew it over Vegas, the Hoover dam, Lake Meade, and finally landed at 1G4, 60 miles east of Vegas on the western rim of the Grand Canyon. The airport is on a native american reservation, and a bus will take you to a glass skywalk overlooking the Grand Canyon.
The Hoover Dam from about 4500'
From the West, at 5500' entering a downwind for right hand traffic r/w 17. Note Grand Canyon West airport at the top of the photo, parallel and about a mile west of the rim of the Grand Canyon. Yes, it is as narrow as it looks.
Typical killer views of the canyon from the reservation, with the Colorado river clearly seen below

16 November 2009 NAS Jax KNIP to KNEW New Orleans for conference.
Departure Friday PM 1627. All times EST. Arrive Tri City airport, 1J0,
Bonifay Florida at 1821. 27.1 Gallons of fuel total. Quick and easy self fuel station just about halfway between JAX and New Orleans.
Depart 1J0 1838 direct to KNEW over Pensacola at 2000', below 3000' ceiling. Last hour of flight into New Orleans over dark gulf south of Pascagula essentially IFR. Autopilot worked great, especially with a GPS course and the GPSS selected on the Aspen. VOR tracking not quite as smooth with the autopilot, so I just had the autopilot follow the panel 430W GPS track. Arrived via right base to r/w 36 L about 2 flight hours later, added 29.6 gallons. Garmin 496 XM weather and Metars were invaluable for the flight, as I could constantly check the enroute and destination current weather at all airports around my route of flight and easily confirm that I had multiple close by VFR weather options. Multiple times enroute I rechecked the KNEW metar confirming that the ceiling was over 3000' and visibility was good.
No hotels were available near the convention center or in the french Quarter as of 2-3 weeks prior to my scheduled conference weekend, so I ended up staying at a Hampton Inn on the North side 6 miles from KNEW near the banks of Lake Ponchetrain. Much damage was still in evidence in the signage and buildings despite many years since Katrina hit.
